MAiSPACE to Eliminate Fiberglass from Product Lines
Replacement material made from 100% recycled plastic from soda bottles
The ill effects of fiberglass inhalation have been documented in studies dating as far back as 1970, but because of backlash from the fiberglass manufacturing industry, regulations regarding its use in the workplace have been slow to develop. Despite this absence of standards, MAiSPACE, a leading manufacturer of quality office furniture systems, is proud to announce it will no longer utilize fiberglass in the production of its tackable and acoustical panels. Instead, the company will use post-consumer PET, a material composed of 100% recycled plastic soda bottles. The announcement comes at a time when environmental concerns are at an all-time high.
“Changes in environmental practices often begin with industry, and we’re proud to lead the way in this initiative,” said MAiSPACE co-founder Mark Bassil. “We’ve always been committed to doing what’s best for our customers; whether that means offering the highest quality products, providing outstanding customer service, or looking out for their best interests in terms of health or environmental issues, MAiSPACE considers this part of its mission.”
Fiberglass is commonly used among manufacturers of office systems furniture because of its price and durability. However, animal testing has shown links between fiberglass inhalation and lung cancer in lab animals (National Cancer Institute).
